The ZAWOSE SIGNATURE Kayamba are professional quality folkloric instruments handmade by the Tanzanian master musician Msafiri Zawose
The Kayamba is a shaker percussion instruments - these Kayambas are indigenous to the Gogo tribe in Central Tanzania and are made of millet, dry seeds, and topetope wood
The Kayamba is played by shaking the dried seeds on the inside of the instrument in a variety of ways, and can be played like a normal shaker such as the Ganza, and there are a number of traditional techniques.
The Kayamba can also be placed on a stand and played with brushes or hotrods to create a unique warm sounding rhythmic texture, and can be used like a rainstick or ocean drum to create atmospheric, textural sounds.
